What our team says

Since joining Focus Environmental Consultants, I have found myself working amongst a warm, friendly and highly-skilled team of ecologists and office staff.

The variety of work that I have been able to undertake at Focus has been immensely beneficial, allowing my skills to develop whilst making great strides in my journey as an ecologist.

Furthermore, combining this work with the flexible TOIL system implemented at Focus has meant that work remains enjoyable at all times.

Josh Toogood

Ecologist at Focus Environmental Consultants since May 2021

Since joining Focus I’ve been involved in plenty of exciting projects, like hibernation surveys for greater and lesser horseshoe bats and bat trapping! I’ve honed my technical skills through courses and self-training, earning a Natural England bat license (Class 3 and 4).

My role involves monitoring compliance with planning consent, permits, and mitigation strategies, overseeing project completion and liaising with managers, contractors, and clients. Modern technology including GIS software, thermal imaging, and infra-red technology, makes our work more enjoyable and interesting.

The standout benefit? Our team – experienced colleagues with diverse expertise who provide invaluable support, along with our friendly and efficient administrative team keeping projects running smoothly!

Robert Pelc

Senior Ecologist at Focus Environmental Consultants since June 2019

I’ve proudly been part of team-Focus for eight years, starting as a Graduate Ecologist in 2015. I’ve tackled diverse projects, from small householder to large-scale housing and redevelopment schemes. Working in a small consultancy offers continuous learning and diverse challenges, overseeing projects from start to finish. I’ve specialized in ornithology while gaining a well-rounded ecological knowledge.

Our tight-knit team fosters idea exchange and mutual support. Even after eight years, I feel career growth. Completing a leadership coaching course last year has equipped me to be a better leader and mentor for current and future staff.

Jessica Stuart-Smith

Associate Ecologist at Focus Environmental Consultants since June 2015
